Choice of thickness for quartz countertops

When choosing quartz countertops, most people are often interested in the pattern or color but pay little attention to the thickness of the tabletop. Users may not even know what options are available for quartz countertop thicknesses or how those choices affect their countertops leads to purchasing thinner or quality materials lower due to lack of research. Some of the information below provides knowledge about the tabletop thickness from Vietnam quartz stone countertop suppliers.

Countertop thickness is in cm. There are three thicknesses of quartz slabs used to fabricate the countertop. Standard thicknesses are 1.2 cm (some manufacturers use 1.8cm), 2cm, and 3cm. Granite fabrication is usually only available from 2cm or 3cm. The 1.2cm type is a bit thin, so when it comes to processing, it requires a lot of technique from quartz stone manufacturers.

Table top 1.2cm or 1.8cm

This thickness parameter is considered to be the thinnest commonly used in prefabricated countertops with laminated edges. A laminated edge is created by taking a small strip of the same material and gluing it to the bottom of the sheet, effectively making it look twice as thick. This method can also be performed with any thickness of quartz countertops.

This type of quartz countertops assembled by this method can be 1cm body with 2cm side or 1.2cm body with 2.4cm side.

In addition, 1cm quartz is used in vertical wall cladding applications because of its lightweight. Users do not need to worry about this 1cm style quartz surface’s fragility as it is secured by solid backings such as plywood or drywall. Typical practical applications include quartz slabs around fireplaces, shower walls, or coatings.

Tabletop 2cm

We also found tabletop thickness in laminated edge type applications such as 1-1.2cm grade. But 2cm laminated edgeless quartz is becoming a popular interior trend. Because quartz is harder and requires less support than granite, we can use its thinner profile to create a clean, minimalist look.

While 2cm granite will require plywood support on top of the cabinet, a laminated edge is necessary to hide the plywood. 2cm quartz countertops do not need plywood support unless stretched for more than 24″, and thus That is usually more convenient and easier to install than granite 2cm.

Quartz countertop 3cm

3cm is the preferred thickness for quartz and granite countertops for most fabricators, designers, and architects. It offers durability, flexible sizes, and diverse color options.

3cm quartz countertop may not need plywood support. Laminated edges are rarely seen with 3cm materials and are usually only used to achieve a thick, massive look.

What thickness is suitable for quartz countertops?

Most interior projects choose a thickness of 3cm quartz countertops. This thickness offers the most design flexibility and often comes in a wide selection of colors and styles. At 3cm, there’s no need for a laminated edge to hide the plywood backing while still providing the ultimate durability over any quartz thickness.

2cm quartz can also be installed without plywood support but requires support for over 8″ overhangs. Tabletop 2cm with multi-layer edges (as well as 1cm and 1.4cm) is commonly used today in low-cost innovative housing and apartment buildings but still meets the standards of high-class apartments and offices.

Both 2cm and 3cm are far superior to prefabricated 1cm or 1.2cm as these will require plywood support and are not common in production sizes at quartz-stone mills.
